Not many people understand the basics of style. It is easy to jump on trends and be in fashion but not have style.
Style is being able to put together functional outfits daily without it being a struggle. It is often within a certain box and can be described in one word or so out of it but it makes sense.
A friend once said to me that she wished she could put together clothes as effortlessly as I did. I laughed and said,
“But you just need the right pieces to start you off.”
Building a wardrobe is the easiest thing in the world. You just need to list the key basics that form the base of your outfit, buy it in black, white and then repeat.
My goal this year is to maintain a functional wardrobe suitable for all occasions. From red carpet to official to casual and if possible wear the same pieces styled differently.
Borrowing a leaf off the Parisian woman, I embraced minimalism. It is easy to put together outfits if all your clothes are the same colour. Black and white are a great place to start.
The secret to make this work is throw on a statement piece and layer simple jewelry pieces.Gold or silver we don’t care as long as they complement the tone of your outfit.
Say you switched this same exact all black outfit to all white and draped a blazer on your shoulders.
Or burgundy with an ankara coat.
Olive green with a white boyfriend jacket.
Denim on denim with a leather jacket.
